Assistant Director
Position Summary
The Assistant Director supports the Center Director in the daily administration, supervision, and operation of the childcare center. This position helps ensure compliance with all state licensing regulations, maintains a safe and nurturing learning environment, supports staff development, and promotes positive relationships with children and families.
The Assistant Director serves as the designated person in charge when the Center Director is unavailable and is responsible for assisting with administrative functions, staff supervision, classroom support, enrollment activities, and overall center operations.
The Assistant Director position is essential to maintaining consistent, high-quality childcare services and ensuring operational continuity. As the childcare center grows and serves multiple classrooms, the Assistant Director provides leadership support by sharing administrative responsibilities, assisting with staff management, supporting classroom operations, and ensuring compliance with licensing requirements.
This role allows for effective oversight of daily center functions, timely response to staff and family needs, and uninterrupted leadership when the Center Director is absent. The position contributes to a stable, safe, and efficient learning environment while supporting the center's mission, educational goals, and regulatory obligations.
Qualifications

High school diploma or GED required.

Knowledge of state childcare licensing regulations and health and safety requirements.

Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Proficiency with computer systems, email, scheduling software, and recordkeeping.

Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise professional judgment.

Current Pediatric CPR and First Aid certification or ability to obtain certification within required timeframes.

Successfully pass all required background checks.
Preferred
-
Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Education, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.

Minimum of two years of experience working in a licensed childcare center, preschool, or early childhood program.

Prior supervisory, leadership, or administrative experience.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Assist the Center Director with daily operations of the childcare center.

Act on behalf of the Center Director as the Director in Charge when the director is not present in the center.

Support enrollment, registration, and family onboarding processes.

Monitor classroom environments to ensure safety, cleanliness, and quality standards

Assist teachers in classrooms as needed to maintain appropriate staff-to-child ratios.

Supervise and participate in feeding, assist with toileting and changing of diapers in a manner that promotes confidence and fosters positive emotional development in infants and toddlers.

Ensure compliance with state licensing regulations, policies, and procedures.

Prepare reports, correspondence, and documentation as needed.

Help coordinate staff schedules and classroom coverage.

Conduct classroom observations and provide feedback to staff.

Help monitor staff performance and adherence to center policies.

Support professional development initiatives.

Ensure classrooms are adequately supplied with materials and resources.

Develop and maintain positive relationships with children, families, and community partners.

Assist with family engagement activities, events, and communications.

Respond appropriately to emergencies, incidents, and unexpected staffing situations.

Participate in leadership meetings and planning activities.
Physical Requirements

Ability to lift and carry classroom supplies, objects and children up to 40 pounds.

Ability to sit on the floor, bend, kneel, stoop, and actively engage with children.

Support children’s daily care needs, including feeding, diapering, toileting, and related caregiving tasks.

Ability to supervise indoor and outdoor activities.

Ability to respond quickly during emergencies.
Work Schedule
This position may require flexibility in scheduling based on classroom needs and center operations.
Compensation: $14-$18 per hour
